Muscovite and gold mica have good electrical insulation and non thermal conductivity, acid resistance, alkali resistance and pressure resistance, so they are widely used to make insulating materials in electronic and electrical industries. Mica fragments and powders are used as fillers and so on. Lithium-ion mica is also the main mineral material for extracting lithium.
Mica is the general name of aluminosilicate, such as potassium, aluminum, magnesium, iron and lithium. There are widespread polytypes in mica, among which monoclinic systems are common, followed by three square systems, and the rest are rare. The most common minerals in mica group minerals are biotite, muscovite, mica, lithium mica and sericite. Mica is usually a pseudo six square or rhombic plate, flake, columnar crystal. The color varies with the chemical composition, and it deepens with the increase of Fe content. Muscovite is colorless, transparent or light color; black mica is dark to dark brown and dark green; golden cloud mother is yellow, brown, green or colorless; lithium-mica is pale purple, rose red to gray. The glass luster, the cleavage surface is the pearl luster. The moth hardness is 2 to 3.5, and the proportion is 2.7 to 3.5. The cleavage of the parallel bottom is very complete. Muscovite is one of the widely distributed rock forming minerals, and it has been produced in three major rocks. Argillaceous rocks can form sericite in low-grade regional metamorphism, and become Muscovite when metamorphic degree is slightly higher. A large amount of Muscovite is produced in the late stage of acid magma crystallization and the stage of pegmatite action. It can also be formed from high temperature to medium low temperature alteration. The so-called Ying Ying rock is one of the high temperature alteration, and can form a large number of muscovite. The so-called sericite is one of the low-temperature alteration and can form large amounts of Sericite. The Muscovite is weathered and broken into fine scales. It can be either a clastic sediment or a mineral component of argillaceous rock.

Mica minerals have been used by humans for a long time due to their large crystals and bright colors. The appellations in ancient Chinese books include: flowers, leather, sky, heaven, gold, old gold, thousand layer paper, Yuan face, Yun Mi Chi and Xiong Hei. The pigments used in the middle Tang 112 cave of Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang are shiny and bright. By X ray diffraction analysis, the Natural Muscovite is finely ground. The color rendering effect is excellent.
Although China had known and used muscovite and gold mica very early, but after the establishment of the regular exploration work on the mica deposit in People's Republic of China, the survey and exploration of the dolomite deposit in Danba and Inner Mongolia, Sichuan, Inner Mongolia have been carried out in 1952 and good results have been achieved. In 1958, the national mica conference was held in Fanshi, Shanxi, which decided to carry out the survey and exploration of mica. In that year, the discovery of the mica deposit in Aletai of Xinjiang played a great role in the development of mica resources in China, and also accumulated experience for the survey and exploration of the mica deposit. Subsequently, the discovery of the Jiangsu Donghai magnesium silicon Muscovite deposit was exploited by industry, and new industrial mica species were added to China. Mica deposits in Inner Mongolia, such as the Wu La Shan, Dabie Mountains, Qinling Mountains, Liaoning, Sichuan and Yunnan, have been found to expand the resources of mica. Since 80s, census of broken mica and sericite has been carried out in building materials, mines and other departments. After detailed investigation, the mica mine was found in Lingshou County, Hebei, and sericite ore spots were found in Inner Mongolia, Liaoning and Hubei, and the industrial application of mica and sericite has also been progressed.
